Competition track
Compete
Practice is where it is built. Tournaments are where a wrestler finds out what they actually own.
How it works
From the club room to the state series
Competition at AWC is a choice, not a requirement. All 1st and 2nd year wrestlers who decide they want to compete will do so under the AWC banner.
Once a wrestler has competed for several years and moves into the OPEN division and wrestling becomes their primary sport, they will be moved up to the TX Select program, which is our advanced youth program.
Our TX Select competition team competes in USA Wrestling sanctioned tournaments across the state, the region and across the country.
Top finishes in Open divisions carry invitations into the state championship series, and that is the ladder our competition-team wrestlers are climbing.
What competing requires
- A current USA Wrestling membership
- Consistent attendance in Intermediate or TX Select practices
- Wrestling shoes, headgear and a singlet
- A parent willing to travel on weekends
The travel team
TX Select
TX Select is our advanced youth program and the competition team our experienced wrestlers represent on the road. It trains Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00–7:30 PM in the AWC room, and high school wrestlers are welcome in those sessions.
Wrestlers move up once they have a few years in, have moved into the Open division and have made wrestling their primary sport.
